I started Catalyst in 2024 as a solution to issues I repeatedly saw throughout my career-
Some years we were slammed with work. As a project manager, I had to figure out how to execute with a partial team because other projects needed resources as badly as I did. Sometimes, I’d lose a key person to a deserved vacation for one month out of a six month build. Or I would be closing out a project when a new one would land. Do I let the old project linger, risking that client relationship and hurting their ability to close on financing OR do I push off starting the new project, losing precious design time and the ability to save my project from problems later on?
On the opposing years we would not quite have enough work so high performers would be sitting on the bench, losing precious experience and would eventually quit.
In all of these instances, it was hard to justify making a fulltime hire because we only had a short term need. Our work was only heavy for a few months out of the year and it was immediate, making training a burden.
Later on, as I moved into leadership roles, I saw this staffing vs timing issue show up in business development. As we see more companies diversify into renewables we have similar problems of not wanting to staff a full bench when the work hasn’t appeared yet, or spend top dollar for a full time executive when the time from lead generation to close could be months if not years.
I started Catalyst as a way to help others experiencing these issues and help move projects forward.
